ABSTRACT

Volatile oil is widely distributed in Chinese medicinal materials with complex chemical components. The main components are terpenes, aromatics, aliphatics, and nitrogen and sulfur containing. It has a variety of pharmacological activities. Such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-aging and so on. It is widely used in medical and health care, agricultural efficiency enhancement, and daily products. In recent years, there have been a large number of studies on the pain relief of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) essential oils, but there is no systematic generalization. The author found that the mechanism of TCM essential oils to exert analgesic effects mainly includes regulation of the central nervous system, anti-inflammatory and analgesic, antispasmodic and analgesic effects by consulting Chinese and foreign literatures in recent years, but the exact mechanism needs to be further verified. This article reviews the research progress of TCM essential oil pain relief from the aspects of pain classification, generation, analgesic mechanism and combination of other technologies, in order to provide reference for related research in the future.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect and analgesic mechanism of percutaneous vertebral angioplasty in the treatment of painful osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture.Methods80 cases of patients with painful osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture in Shaoxing second hospital from May 2014 to May 2016 were selected, they were randomly divided into percutaneous vertebroplasty group (40 cases) and conservative treatment group (40 cases) two groups, the clinical efficacy, VAS scores and ODI scores of the two groups were statistically analyzed.ResultsThe total treatment effective rate of the percutaneous vertebroplasty group 95% (38/40) was significantly higher than the conservative treatment group (30/40) (P<0.05);The VAS scores and ODI scores of the two groups after treatment were significantly lower than before treatment (P<0.05);The differences of VAS scores and ODI scores before treatment between the two groups were not significant. The VAS score and ODI score after treatment of the percutaneous vertebroplasty group were significantly lower than the conservative treatment group (P<0.05).ConclusionThe therapeutic effect of percutaneous vertebral angioplasty in the treatment of painful osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures is more significant than conservative treatment, it has better analgesic effect, so is worthy of promotion in the clinical.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of conventional western medication and joss stick moxibustion combined with pricking and cupping for herpes zoster in acute stage, and to explore its analgesic mechanism.

METHODSSeventy patients with acute herpes zoster were randomized into an observation group (33 cases after 2 dropping) and a control group (34 cases after 1 dropping). Patients in the observation group were treated with joss stick moxibustion combined with pricking and cupping at localpoints for 7 times, once every other day. Oral acyclovir, vitamin Band mecobalamin tablets were applied in the control group for continuous 14 days, and interferon injection was used for continuous 6 days, etc. The herpes evaluation indexes of blister stopping time, scab time and decrustation time as well as pain intensity were observed before and after treatment. Peripheral serum substance P (SP) content of herpes local situation was detected. The comprehensive effects were evaluated.

RESULTSThe blister stopping time, scab time and decrustation time in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group (all<0.05). There was no statistical significance for pain relief degree between the two groups (>0.05). The pain beginning to ease time and duration time in the observation group were better than those in the control group (both<0.05). The contents of SP in the two groups decreased after treatment (both<0.01), and it was better in the observation group (<0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group after treatment was 87.9% (29/33), and that of the control group was 85.3% (29/34), which were not statistically significant (>0.05). The cured rate of the observation group was better than that of the control group [66.7% (22/33) vs 58.8% (20/34),<0.05].

CONCLUSIONJoss stick moxibustion combined with pricking and cupping are effective for herpes zoster, which have quicker and good analgesic effects than conventional western medication. Its mechanism may be related to reducing the content of SP more fast and to a larger degree.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo explore the action mechanisms of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) on prevention and treatment of orthodontic toothache.

METHODSTwenty-four male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into a blank group, an orthodontic group and a TEAS group, 8 rabbits in each one. The orthodontic model of rabbit was made in orthodontic group and TEAS group by bonding brackets and fixing NI-TI screw with ligature wire. After model establishment, the TEAS group was treated with TEAS atpoints (skin surface corresponding points to the bilateral upper 1st molars) and "Hegu" (LI 4) with dilatational wave, 20 min per treatment, twice a day, totally 2-day consecutive treatment (4 treatments) was provided. The rabbit general behavior, total food intake and threshold of pain were observed; the contents of serum prostaglandin E(PGE), granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) as well as endorphin (β-EP) fluid and cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were detected.

RESULTSCompared with the orthodontic group, the rabbit general behavior, total food intake and threshold of pain in the TEAS group were significantly improved (<0.05,<0.01). The serum PGEwere significantly reduced (<0.05), while GM-CSF presented reducing trend without statistical significance (>0.05). The β-EP in the CSF were increased (<0.05), while CCK-8 in CSF presented reducing trend without statistical significance (>0.05).

CONCLUSIONSThe preventive and therapeutic effects of TEAS on rabbits with orthodontic toothache are achieved by reducing algogenic substance PGEin peripheral nervous system selectively, increasing β-EP in CSF in central nervous system and keeping the level of anti-opioid pain maintaining substance CCK-8.Both the central and peripheral nervous systems participate in the analgesic effect of TEAS.
